Overview: Women must possess the self-worth, confidence and freedom to choose what they want to do regarding both their private and professional lives. Gender bias is unreasonable and wrong on so many levels, curbing potent individuals from not only striving towards their best but also from living an independent life free of domination and fear. Women empowerment seeks to stimulate the confidence in women by providing them everything that is in their capacity to help them see the skills that they contain and are dormant within them. A proper nurturing, polishing and sharpening of those skills is only made possible through better education, awareness and a space to freely express oneself. So many women are a victim to domination, abuse or violence and it is high time these women learn to stand up for themselves and take their own decisions. They must learn how to rise above oppression and express their views without any fear.
Why it matters: Many women are married off at a very young age and are not allowed to work and have to depend on their husbands for everything including their basic needs. This plays a huge role in lowering their confidence. However, more women are now experiencing women empowerment to start their own businesses. In the past two decades, female business owners increased from 5 percent to 38 percent, according to an article on Forbes. Employment from female-owned businesses has also increased while employment from men-owned businesses has decreased. However, women are not bringing in the same revenue as men. Women are still trying to catch up to be on the same playing field as men. A confidence gap between males and females could be blamed for this as more women are less likely to go after what can make them become successful. As a result, feeling empowered, especially by other ladies, can make girls feel like they can meet their goals without the help of a man. It is important for them to feel this way in order to succeed in their personal and professional lives.
What Amal is doing: Skilled women are gems in this generation and we have seen that many women are ambitious to achieve their goals and make a stand in the communities and Amal is also focused on underprivileged women who are left far behind. Amal is constantly helping them to build their career in a soothing way like building a skill center where women are being trained by the professional trainer to learn sewing, stitching, tailoring , so far we have built 2 skill centers in Bogra called Rowshan Ara skill center and another one in Teknaf called Hope Humanitarian. In the centers, the women learn tailoring and sewing skills. They design and make sarees, wooden earrings, bangles and neckpieces which we then sell through Azowa- a sister concern of Amal foundation which is a sustainable business supporting women empowerment. This helps them to earn their living by utilizing their skills and talents and live an independent life.
