Center for Climate-Smart Techniques: Sustainable Solutions for Women Resilience

Center for Climate-Smart Techniques: Sustainable Solutions for Women Resilience

Duration : 10 Dec 2023 To 15 Dec 2023

Location: Amal Foundation

While climate change disproportionately affects women in coastal and rural areas, they can also be powerful agents of change. To empower these women, AMAL Foundation, in partnership with the Australian High Commission and TIKA, launched the “Center for Climate-Smart Techniques: Sustainable Solutions for Women’s Resilience” project in Modinabad, Khulna.

The project’s goal is to enhance climate resilience by providing skill development and creating sustainable work opportunities for 80 underprivileged women. It focuses on climate-smart agriculture techniques like sack and vertical gardening, which offer practical solutions for growing food in small spaces despite frequent flash floods.

Over the past year, three cohorts have completed the program, directly benefiting 80 women and indirectly reaching over 300 others. The project conducts community courtyard meetings (Uthan Boithoks) where both participants and other local women receive training on smart agricultural techniques and leadership skills. Each cohort, comprising 20 women, receives comprehensive training and is equipped with sack and vertical garden setups, along with 100 vegetable seeds. Over the next year, a total of four cohorts will be trained, empowering 80 women with the knowledge and tools to improve their livelihoods, become more resilient, and contribute to sustainable farming practices in their communities.
