In the Kutupalong Rohingya Camp in Cox’s Bazar, one of the world’s largest refugee settlements, thousands of children continue to face overwhelming barriers to education. Amid overcrowding, scarce resources, and instability, the opportunity to learn often feels out of reach.
In 2018, Amal Foundation, in partnership with Hope Humanitarian, launched the Hope Child Friendly Space, which is a safe and nurturing environment where refugee children could learn, heal, and dream. More than a school, it was created as a sanctuary, a beacon of stability and hope amid uncertainty.
The project began with 70 enrolled children, each previously denied even the most basic education. Within this space, they embarked on their first steps toward formal learning. But the initiative went far beyond academics: children received free meals, medical checkups, and brain development activities, ensuring their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. By meeting these foundational needs, the program allowed children not only to study but also to regain confidence, resilience, and hope.
The impact has been transformative. What started as a learning center has grown into a gateway to opportunity, offering refugee children a chance to envision a brighter future. By prioritizing emotional care, intellectual development, and health support, the Hope Child Friendly Space provides holistic growth for children who have endured unimaginable hardships.
Today, the center continues to stand as a symbol of possibility. It demonstrates that even in the most difficult environments, education can break cycles of despair and empower children to rise above their circumstances. Through this initiative, Amal Foundation and Hope Humanitarian are not only offering education but also investing in a new generation—one capable of overcoming adversity and contributing meaningfully to their communities. The Hope Child Friendly Space is a testament that with the right support, second chances are possible, and learning can thrive, even in crisis.
