Courage Skill Center: Empowering Rohingya Women Through Skill Development

Courage Skill Center: Empowering Rohingya Women Through Skill Development

Duration : 10 Dec 2023 To 15 Dec 2023

Location: Amal Foundation

Migrant women from the Rohingya refugee community face numerous challenges, including limited access to employment, healthcare, and education. Often marginalized and susceptible to violence, they also experience poor living conditions and the psychological strain of displacement. Addressing these issues is essential for improving the welfare and empowerment of this underprivileged group.

To tackle these challenges, AMAL Foundation along with Hope Humanitarian established the “Courage Skill Center” at the Leda Refugee Camp in Teknaf, providing a platform for Rohingya women to acquire valuable skills and achieve financial independence. The center engaged 149 women in productive activities, such as block printing on sarees and creating handcrafted jewelry including necklaces, bracelets, and earrings made from wood.

These handcrafted items were sold through Azowa, an online platform, offering the women a market for their work and a source of income. Through this initiative, AMAL Foundation has empowered these women, helping them build skills that not only enhance their livelihoods but also contribute to their sense of dignity and self-sufficiency
