Fire Revive: Immediate Assistance for Fire-Affected Areas

Duration : 10 Dec 2023 To 15 Dec 2023

Location: Amal Foundation

In the aftermath of a fire, it often feels as though the world has turned to ash, leaving devastation and despair behind. In Bangladesh, fire-related disasters are a harsh reality, it destroys homes, livelihoods, and entire communities in a matter of minutes. From the overcrowded slums of Dhaka to rural villages, fires strike with little warning, often caused by faulty electrical systems, negligence, or the absence of proper safety measures. The consequences are severe: families uprooted, belongings lost, and lives thrown into crisis.

One such tragedy occurred on October 17, 2021, in Majirpara village, Ramnathpur Union, when a mob attack targeted the Hindu community, deliberately setting fire to their homes. Twenty houses were destroyed, leaving families without shelter, food, or security. Just weeks later, another disaster struck, this time in Mirpur-12 slum, Dhaka, where a fire ravaged over 1,000 homes, displacing countless families and pushing them into extreme hardship.

In both instances, Amal Foundation responded with urgency and compassion. In Majirpara, the team immediately distributed dry food packages, ensuring that families who had lost their homes, livestock, and daily necessities could meet their most basic needs. Beyond aid, the response sought to restore a sense of dignity and hope amidst devastation.

Following the Mirpur-12 tragedy, Amal Foundation conducted a firsthand needs assessment, enabling a targeted response. The foundation provided emergency food supplies and essential medicines to the displaced residents, helping them stabilize in the midst of uncertainty.

This effort, known as the Fire Revive initiative, is more than an emergency response, it is a symbol of solidarity and compassion. Amal Foundation’s swift action reflects its deep commitment to vulnerable communities, proving that when disaster strikes, collective action and empathy can help families rise from the ashes, reclaiming strength and resilience for the future.
