“Lorbe Naari, Gorbe Desh”: An Initiation to Stand Against Sexual Harassment and Violence Against Women

Duration : 10 Dec 2023 To 15 Dec 2023

Location: Amal Foundation

exual harassment and violence against women remain pervasive societal issues that significantly affect the safety and well-being of women. Despite increased awareness and advocacy, these challenges continue in various social and professional settings, hindering progress toward gender equality. Addressing these issues requires education, preventive measures, and most importantly, the empowerment of women to take charge of their own safety and rights.

In response, AMAL Foundation launched the “Lorbe Naari, Gorbe Desh” initiative – a two-month training program aimed at empowering women to stand against sexual harassment and violence. Funded by City Alo and WeDo, the program provided a range of critical services, including self-defense training, mental health counseling, physical health counseling, and legal advice. The primary goal was to equip women with the tools they need to confront violence confidently and move through society with safety and equal rights.

Additionally, the project aimed to raise public awareness of sexual harassment and violence against women through a BTL (Below the Line) Campaign, which highlighted the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for women in all aspects of life.

The success of the initiative is reflected in the positive outcomes achieved. 25 women were trained in self-defense, equipping them with practical skills to protect themselves. Furthermore, the training sessions covered crucial topics such as menstrual hygiene, personal cleanliness, mental health awareness, and available resources for addressing these issues. Women were also educated about their legal rights, empowering them to confront discrimination and harassment with the confidence and knowledge needed to stand up for themselves.

The Lorbe Naari, Gorbe Desh initiative not only provided immediate empowerment to the participants but also contributed to a broader societal shift by fostering awareness and advocacy for women’s safety and rights.
