On October 30, 2023, AMAL Foundation, in collaboration with the US Embassy to Bangladesh, Unilever Bangladesh, Pran-RFL Group, Chevron, Coca-Cola Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Petrochemical Company Limited (BPCL), organized the ‘Managing Plastic in Bangladesh: 2023 Conference’ at The Westin Dhaka. The event brought together key stakeholders from the private sector, government, civil society, and academia to discuss the challenges of plastic pollution in Bangladesh and explore collaborative solutions to tackle the growing environmental crisis.

The conference featured a comprehensive agenda with five pivotal topics, including the impact of plastic waste on the environment, challenges in waste management, and strategies for promoting sustainability in both urban and rural areas. It provided a dynamic platform for expert panels and representatives to engage in open discussions, share best practices, and propose actionable solutions that can help mitigate plastic pollution in the country.

One of the key components of the conference was the “Future Solutions” segment, where participants were encouraged to submit innovative ideas and case studies related to plastic waste reduction. This call for contributions included input from students, NGOs, businesses, and other entities, allowing a diverse range of voices to participate in shaping the future of plastic waste management in Bangladesh.

The conference successfully highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration, emphasizing the need for public-private partnerships and community involvement in tackling environmental challenges. It also raised awareness among participants about the socioeconomic and environmental impact of plastic pollution and encouraged collective responsibility for creating a more sustainable future.

Through this event, AMAL Foundation and its partners aimed to foster a sense of shared responsibility among stakeholders, encourage innovative thinking, and pave the way for long-term sustainable solutions to reduce plastic waste and improve environmental health in Bangladesh.
