Young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly those in remote and climate-vulnerable rural areas, face immense challenges in achieving self-sufficiency. Limited access to employment, healthcare, and quality education often traps them in an unrelenting cycle of poverty. These challenges are further heightened by poor infrastructure and the scarcity of resources, leaving many without the means to improve their socio-economic conditions or envision a better future.

In response to these pressing issues, Amal Foundation launched the “One Shop Initiative”. Which is a targeted effort to economically empower underprivileged youth in Char Shonpocha, Sariakandi. Through this project, 50 small shops were provided to 20 young women and 30 young men, creating a platform for sustainable income generation. With this initiative, Amal offered more than just physical infrastructure, it provided an opportunity for entrepreneurial development, enabling these youth to take their first step toward financial independence.

This approach allowed them to create livelihood opportunities despite their difficult financial situations and geographical isolation. By offering tools for long-term self-reliance, the project aimed to instill a sense of ownership, dignity, and hope among the youth, encouraging them to break free from generational poverty.

The construction and distribution of these shops not only supported individual economic growth but also contributed to the wider development of the community. As these young entrepreneurs begin to generate income and reinvest in their surroundings, the ripple effects are already visible—increased local economic activity, stronger community networks, and the emergence of role models who inspire others to pursue similar paths. The One Shop Initiative stands as a powerful example of how localized entrepreneurship, when nurtured and supported, can transform lives and uplift entire communities.
