“Rowshan Ara Skill Center”: A Platform for Women to Become Empowered

Duration : 10 Dec 2023 To 15 Dec 2023

Location: Amal Foundation

The isolated river island of Char Shonpocha, located in Bangladesh’s Bogura District, faces significant economic challenges compounded by climate change vulnerability. Women in this region are particularly disadvantaged, struggling with limited opportunities and underrepresentation in the workforce. The area’s poor infrastructure, scarcity of resources, and climate-related challenges have only intensified the issues, creating a pressing need for initiatives that can empower women and boost the local economy.

The Rowshan Ara Skill Center, an impactful initiative by AMAL Foundation, has successfully helped 155 women in Char Shonpocha gain economic and social independence. The center provides valuable training in saree and clothing making, teaching essential techniques such as tie-dyeing, quilting, block printing, and embroidery. These skills have empowered women to create high-quality crafted products, which they can sell for financial support.

Through this initiative, AMAL Foundation facilitated financial independence for the women by offering them the tools to support themselves and their families. By selling the products they created at the local market, these women have not only improved their own livelihoods but also contributed to the broader economic development of their community. The Rowshan Ara Skill Center has played a key role in addressing personal, family, and societal challenges, empowering women to overcome barriers and pursue social independence.

This initiative has had a profound impact on the lives of women in Char Shonpocha, helping them achieve both economic security and social empowerment, and is a testament to the power of skill development in transforming communities.
