“Skill Training Centers”: A Place to be Empowered and Self-reliant

Duration : 10 Dec 2023 To 15 Dec 2023

Location: Amal Foundation

Enhancing the livelihoods of underprivileged women in disaster-prone areas, particularly in char and coastal regions, is a critical challenge. Many of these women face constrained employability and are reliant on male-dominated income sources, which perpetuates a cycle of poverty within marginalized communities. Impoverished financial conditions and lack of empowerment further hinder their ability to achieve economic independence and limit personal and professional growth. To address these challenges, providing comprehensive skill development training has emerged as a key solution.

To uplift and empower these women, Amal Foundation initiated Skill Training Centers in Bogra Sadar, Koyra (Khulna), and Chokoria (Chittagong). These centers offer training in essential skills such as sewing techniques, embroidery, block printing, quilting, and tie-dyeing, as well as other practical life skills. The Skill Centre for Women’s Empowerment currently serves women from three districts, offering them the tools to become economically self-reliant and socially empowered.

The results of these efforts have been significant. Women trained at the centers have gone on to earn a stable income ranging from 3500 to 4000 BDT per month, enabling them to support their families and invest in their own futures. This income also contributes to their children’s education, helping to break the cycle of poverty for the next generation.

Amal Foundation’s Skill Training Centers have played a pivotal role in fostering independence and empowerment among young women, providing them with the skills and confidence to become active contributors to their families and communities.
