“Skill Training Centers”: A Place to be Empowered and Self-reliant

Duration : 10 Dec 2023 To 15 Dec 2023

Location: Amal Foundation

Enhancing the livelihoods of underprivileged women in disaster-prone areas is a pressing concern, particularly in char and coastal area. The constrained employability of these women, coupled with their reliance on male-dominated income sources, perpetuates a cycle of prevalent poverty among marginalized communities. Marginalized women face challenges due to impoverished financial conditions and a lack of empowerment. These obstacles hinder their economic independence and limit opportunities for personal and professional growth. To uplift these women and bridge the existing gaps, a pivotal solution lies in providing comprehensive skill development training.

In order to making women independent and empowered, Amal Foundation initiated training centers in Bogra Sadar, Koyra, Khulna and Chokoria, Chittagong that trains young women sewing techniques, including embroidered prints, block prints, quilting, and tie-dyeing, and other practical life skills, enabling them to become economically and socially independent. The Skill Centre for Women’s Empowerment is presently home to about women of these three mentioned districts. Women from a variety of backgrounds are learning with an aim to eventually be able to sustain themselves financially.

The results indicate Amal’s efforts at the Hope Skill Centre for Women’s Empowerment have led to the empowerment of young women. The women who have already been trained from the training center has started to earn a decent amount such as from 3500 – 4000 per month and supporting their families and themselves in time of need. Also, they are contributing to their child’s education.
