People in Bangladesh’s rural, climate-prone areas, particularly women, suffer from extreme poverty that is exacerbated by climate change. Women are underrepresented in the workforce and face more challenges. Insufficient infrastructure, limited resources, and climate-related issues compound the problems, necessitating prompt action to strengthen the local economy and empower women in this impoverished region.
The action taken was the provision of goats to around 800 women beneficiaries. This initiative aimed to empower the women economically, enabling them to generate a source of income for their livelihoods and to support their family members. Through this initiative, 800 women beneficiaries were empowered as they became financially independent through animal husbandry.
